The holidays are around the corner and you know what that means — it’s time for the fun runs and costume races! They’re perfect excuse to dress up, and instead of overloading on sugar (trick-or-treating has its downside), you’ll be burning calories. Even the super-competitive runners need to let loose on a race here or there. So we’ve convinced you to sign up for your local themed race, now what to wear? You’re in luck, we’ve looked far and wide to find the best running costumes that you can still move a little in.
With so many race themes out there, it can be tough to come up with good running costumes. Keyword: running. It’s easy enough to come up with an awesome Halloween costume, but can you move comfortably in your awesome outfit, let alone run? We’ve done the hard work and tested a couple of awesome yet moveable running costumes. Warning: please take your costume for a test run first! You want to make sure nothing is falling off or uncomfortable, something you don’t want to find out on race day!
Superheroes – Superhero running costumes are such a great idea if mobility is a top priority. Somehow children manage to run down the street in a full costume while trick-or-treating, but as an adult, it might be a little difficult to do a 5k or half marathon in full costume. If you have a favorite superhero, grab a pair of running shorts that fits the color scheme and add a shirt with their emblem. If you you want to take your outfit to the next level snag yourself an awesome cape that will sail through the wind while you are busy running as fast as The Flash.
Zombie – If you’re doing one of the many October fun runs, running as a zombie is the perfect option for you. The best thing about this running costume is that you’ve already got all the necessities in your closet! Grab a ratty old t-shirt and running shorts that you don’t mind cutting up and getting dirty. First, cut up the clothes a little so it looks like you’re arisen from the dead (but not so much that they’re falling off your body!). Then, to really sell the blood thirsty zombie look, get some costume makeup or red paint to splatter on the outfit. If you’re really in a DIY mood, have a little fun and make your own blood. To finish off the look, lace up your running shoes!
Ballerina/fairy – A ballerina or a fairy are probably some of the easiest running costumes to rock on the race course! All you’re going to need to pull this together are a tank top, leggings, and a tutu (add a pair of wings to be a fairy). The best part about this outfit (besides how easy it is) is how comfortable it will be to run in. You’ll barely feel the tutu there and if you’re running in chilly weather or early in the AM, the leggings will also keep you warm.
Wicked Witch of the West – Doing a Disney run? Try dressing up as the Wicked Witch of the West! You’ll need plenty of black clothing to get your witch look on. Try pairing a black top with black shorts or running capris. Then grab a pair of two-toned striped leggings or tube socks. We don’t recommend running with a broom between your legs, so to complete the look for this running costume, we found amazing witch hat hairbands that will stay put while you are running. Swap out your running shoes for some boots to repurpose this running costume for a Halloween party.
Princesses – Who knew that being a princess could be so easy? Well princesses make for perfect running costumes for any of the run Disney races. Disney is a great starting point to think of what type of colors and look you would like. Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella are all be easy choices because they require only one color (yellow, pink, or blue). For your princess running costume, wear the right color top and bottom, then get a matching tutu (can you tell tutus are essential to these outfits?), and top it off with a tiara! If you’re looking to buy a complete outfit, we found a few Esty shops dedicated to these types of running costumes. For those of you who want to assemble your own fun run princess outfit, check out Sparkle Athletics for all your running and sparkly needs. Just remember to leave your glass slippers at home, unless you want to be slipping out of your shoes!
Putting together great running costumes can be a lot easier than you think. All it takes is one idea, some creativity, and fun. We would love to see all of the costumes this holiday season so tweet us @66Audio!
